SCREW

This wiki establishes the procedures regarding the SCREW (Scheduling Crew Routes Entertaining Whims) program for Hartlantair.

BACKGROUND:
Hartlantair previously utilized open source software for the automated assignments of flight crew routes. Assignments were issued at 0000Z of the first day of the month and routinely included 4 sequential legs. Legs could be flown in any order as desired by flight crews, but had to be assigned in a sequential order.

Per a memo released on AUGUST 6 2026:

The Hartlantair Management team would like to announce refurbishments to the SCREW department & flight assignments. The Scheduling Crew Routes Entertaining Whims program is being redesigned to better promote crew requests in assigned flying. In support of this mission, and to better add agility in its operations, the SCREW department is being compartmentalized under the new Operation of Foresight in Flight sub-department, under the authority of the Central Operational Control Center.

In an industry first, Hartlantair's management is reaffirming its commitment to the prohibition of Artificial Intelligence (Language Learning Models) and other hazards associated with the clanker revolution.

Questions can be directed to the Hartlantair screw@off.hartlantair.com. Thanks for all that you do — have a great week!

General guidelines:

Crew members should generally be assigned routes where, when practical, best conform to any of the following, in priority order:

  1. As requested in a Pilot Bid Information Declaration (BID)
  2. Where practical and easily ascertainable, routine flying for Hartlantair

Pilots are to submit Bid Information Declarations (BID) by 2359 Zulu on the Sunday that preempts that day 2 weeks prior to the last calendar day of the month.

Example: In the month of July 2030, pilots must submit their BID by 2359Z on Sunday July 14, 2030, as this is the last Sunday in advance of 2 weeks of the end of the month (7/17/30).

Bid Information Declaration guidelines:

Pilots may submit BID requests via email to screw@off.hartlantair.com.

In their BID requests, pilots may request:

  • Legs/Airports to avoid
  • Legs/Airports to fly
  • Minimum Leg Length (Minutes OR distance)
  • Maximum Leg Length (Minutes OR distance)
  • At least 4 legs, but no more than 8 OR no more than 75% of the assignments flown for the last month, whichever value is lower.

Publication requirements:

The SCREW Specialist (SCREWS) shall submit trip assignments for dissemination no later than 7 days in advance of the last day of the calendar month via electronic mail to screw@off.hartlantair.com.

Additional requirements:

  • The subject must include “!! ASSIGNMENTS FOR DISSEMINATION - FOR THE MONTH OF (insert month here)!!”
  • CC: gga816srcoord@crew.hartlantair.com
  • Trip assignments must be submitted via CSV as an attachment.

Additional Information:

SCREWS are advised to notify the Route Services and Vocational Planning department prior to creation of trips to mitigate impacts from network additions or reductions.

Where practical, when building the schedule:

  • Include a log of city pairs or flight numbers. This is usable in the event a flight is assigned a new unique ID on the website.
  • Format the CSV in a manner that promotes easy upload. This means the ID to the left should always be unique - and preferably, in sequential order.3
  • SCREW need not assign trips for all persons listed as active as Hartlantair will retain automated systems that can assign trips to those pilots that are “active”.
  • Attempt to refrain from assigning trips for persons that will not be active when trips go active (0000Z on the first on the month).
